Dr. Erik Werner Barnett
Erik was born May 23, 1937 in Aberdeen Washington. He grew up in Naselle, Washington where he excelled at many things including academics. He received his Associate's Degree from Lower Columbia College and his Bachelor's Degree from Western Washington University. Erik continued his education, earning his Master's Degree from University of Portland and his Doctorate in Education from Oregon State University.
While at Western he met, and after graduation, married Billie King. They both began work as teachers for the Battle Ground School District where Dr. Barnett continued to work until retiring after 30 years of teaching.
Erik was an avid weight lifter and outdoorsman. He enjoyed real estate investing, working on his farm and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and family. Erik was also an elder and longtime tribal council member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe.
He is survived by his brother John Barnett and his three sons and their families: Rick and Janelle Barnett of Lebanon, Oregon, Ron and Donna Barnett of Hillsboro, and Steve and Karen from Albany. Erik is also survived by his five beloved grandchildren, Jared, Kyli, Caleb, Andrew and Bethany.
Dr. Barnett was preceded in death by his former wife and life-long friend Billie Barnett.
Erik Barnett died from injuries suffered as the result of a farming accident on August 20, 2007.
