Doris Crispien
Doris Crispien died March 21, 2007, in Vancouver. She was 91.
She is predeceased by Elmer, her husband of 63 years. She is survived by her sister, Grace Hinthorne of Leavenworth; sons Donald Crispien of Bay City, MI, and Larry Crispien of Vancouver; daughters Susan Gaffney of Washougal, Evelyn Laughman of Astoria, OR and Karen Krueger of Seattle; grandchildren Robert and Kevin Crispien of Bay City, MI, Brian Gaffney of Washougal, Jennifer Laughman of Seaside, OR, Robert Laughman of Seattle, Rebekah Laughman of Bellevue, Amy Evans of Vancouver, Terrence Crispien of Lynnwood, Shannon Crispien of Vancouver, and Kenton Krueger of Seattle; one great grandchild, Adrianna Crispien of Bay City, MI; numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
Doris was a homemaker and lifetime resident of Washington state. She was born February 29, 1916, in Skamania, the fourth child of Charlie and Lua Cree. She graduated from Stevenson High School in 1935. She attended Central Washington College of Education, Western Washington College of Education, and Dietz Business College. Doris married Elmer Crispien in 1942. They lived at Cape Horn for 28 years, operated a grade A dairy, and took pride in their vegetable and flower gardens. After selling the dairy, they moved to Washougal where they lived for 33 years. In 2003, they moved o Fishers Landing Assisted Living in Vancouver.
Doris was known for her kind and gentle spirit, helpfulness, and determination. She delighted in making others feel special by sending cards with original poems for birthdays and special occasions. Children adored her. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church for over 60 years, where she served in the care ministry and prayer chain. She participated in the Senior Nutrition and Activity Program in Washougal for many years where she enjoyed activities with her SNAP family. For many years she visited residents and played the concertina at Highland Terrace Nursing Home. She belonged to the Daughters of the American Revolution, Fort Vancouver Chapter, for 30 years. She also enjoyed knitting, making new friends, and taking and sharing photographs.
A service will be held Thursday, March 29, at 11am at Zion Lutheran Church in Camas. Lunch will follow at Zion?s Social Hall. Private graveside services will be held for family.
