GEORGE WAYNE HUNTER
George Wayne Hunter, a Washougal resident, died at his home Wednesday December 29th. He was 74. Mr. Hunter was born February 22, 1930 in Vancouver, Washington to Arvilla Penke and Herman Hunter. He has lived in the Vancouver/Camas area all his life. He served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict and married Alice Zenner while on leave in January of 1952. She died in 2001. He worked at Crown Zellerbach, mostly in the bag factory, for 42 years, retiring in 1992. George was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Eagles Lodge and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed woodworking and all outdoor activities, especially mushrooming and huckleberry picking.
Mr. Hunter is survived by his three sons Robert of Camas, Wash. and Ronald and Richard, both of Washougal, Wash.; his Special Friend Elsie Tucker of Washougal; sister Margaret Hinze of Washougal; Mother-in-law Isabel Zenner of Washougal; six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Alice.
The casket will be open Monday, January 3rd from 9AM to 1PM at Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas. Graveside services will be the same day at 2:30PM at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vancouver.
