Mark Christopher Lampton
5/1/1946 - 8/3/2015
Mark Lampton, 69, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2015 after a short battle with cancer. He was surrounded by close friends and his beloved wife of 38 years, Charlene. Mark was born in Los Angeles, CA to Oscar and Frances Lampton, served a tour of duty in Viet Nam while in the Marine Corps, and he and Charlene made their home in California. In 2003 they discovered the Pacific Northwest and moved to Washougal, WA. Camas/Washougal was his forever place.
Mark worked in the semiconductor industry in Silicon Valley, Sunnyvale, California, acquiring the marketing skills that he brought to the Pacific NW. Mark utilized those skills while serving as a Port of Camas-Washougal Commissioner from 2010 and was a key member of the economic development of the area he loved and called home.
Mark was never on a committee to just check a box. He was active, he expressed his opinion, he challenged the status quo, and was always eager to learn and to understand other perspectives. Mark was a visionary and actively worked to see ideas and projects come to fruition. He loved the work; it made him happy.
Mark's motto was, "Your Port, Our Future". He was supportive of the preservation of historic sites and public parks and was the driving force behind the creation of the Camas-Washougal Economic Development Association. Mark was a true believer that we could all make a difference and improve our community for everyone. A natural leader, he encouraged civic involvement and was committed to creating family wage jobs and employment opportunities for families in our community. Mark was instrumental in improving public access to the waterfront with the development of the Washougal Waterfront Park. He left a lasting legacy and future generations will benefit from his efforts. Mark made a difference. He will be greatly missed.
There will be a Celebration of his life on Friday, August 21 at 10:30 a.m. at the Port of Camas-Washougal, Parker's Landing Historical Park's Chinook Plaza, 24 South A Street, Washougal WA 98671.
