Obituary of Sherry Johnson
Carmen “Sherry” Johnson
Carmen “Sherry” Johnson, known simply as Sherry, passed away on July 30, 2024, at her cherished family farm at Cape Horn after a courageous year-long battle with medical complications. Born on September 5, 1942, in Camas, WA, Sherry’s heart was forever rooted in Skamania County.
Sherry attended Cape Horn Elementary and Washougal High, where she was active in the pep club, enjoying many social activities with her brother and sister. After graduating in 1960, she married her high school sweetheart, Norris Johnson. Together, they farmed their Skamania County properties, furthering her family’s historic legacy. Sherry was deeply involved in the Skamania County Fair and 4-H, serving as a 4-H Leader and Goat & Sheep Superintendent, and also serving as a member of the Fair Board for over four decades. She loved the 4-H community proudly supporting the next generations of farmers.
Sherry cherished trips to the beach, camping, fishing, and long drives with her husband. She enjoyed attending luncheons with her classmates reminiscing about their good times at Washougal High. Known for being fashionably late, Sherry often arrived with her famous deviled egg plate. She showed her love through holidays, creating magic for her kids with hand-sewn costumes and decorated baked goods. Christmas always included special ornaments and elaborate gingerbread houses. Elvis’ music was a constant joy in her life.
As the sun sets over Cape Horn, we honor Sherry’s legacy. Her laughter echoes in the old barn, and her spirit rides with us on our road trips to special places. May her memory continue to inspire all our adventures, imaginations, and wonderment of life.
Sherry was preceded in death by her husband Norris, mother Barbara Osborne, and brother Jerry Osborne. She is survived by her five children, Robert (Alicia), Eldon (Laurie), Coral (Rodney), Dianna (Bryan), and Vicky (Jeff); 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; her sister Sally Bea (her friend and forever cheerleader); and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank The Caring Closet of Vancouver, Roxana Bolohan & family, Hospice of Vancouver, and Visiting Angels. In lieu of flowers or cards, please consider a donation to Washougal School District Athletics or WSU 4-H Extension. Sherry and Norrie will be laid to rest together forever on their farm at a private family memorial this Fall.
