Where to even begin...
Sherry and Norrie were family friends before she was ever my mother-in-law of 40 years. I remember going to 4-h cooking at their house after school. That's the first time I ever saw my future husband as a middle schooler. I can remember her being pregnant a few years later with my youngest sister-in-law, Vicky.
Sherry always had an opinion, and I guess I first realized it when I was informed having a wedding during haying season was not a good plan. She had something to say about almost every subject. She was strong willed, strong in her convictions, and a strong farm wife for almost 62 years.
Sherry was always on the go and loved keeping up with her grandchildren's activities and being involved in 4-h. She loves to travel and was interested in everything her large family was up to. She was the family historian, and even until the end she could tell you who was related to who and identify photos from long ago. She was spunky and full of life, and it's really hard to realize she's no longer with us.
She had a really hard last 16 months following a broken hip, doctor error, and medical complications. Especially tragic was losing Norrie so unexpectedly during this time. She never really lost hope of returning home to her farm, and to regain the ability to eat. She did it, although not the way that any of us would have hoped. The fact she lived almost 6 weeks home on hospice when the doctors gave her a week, perhaps two was a testament to her toughness and strength. It was difficult to see her lose her independence after so many complications and difficult medical procedures. We really don't know how she endured all she went through, and take some comfort knowing she is at peace and her suffering is over, and they're together again.
I am grateful for the farm life that she and Norrie lived and the work ethic they instilled in my husband and in our kids. It was their large family that inspired us to have our own large family. I am thankful for living close by these past 36 years.
I'm proud to have been their daughter-in-law, and I will miss Sherry and Norrie always.
