I just loved Chuck to pieces! 8^
We spent a lot of time together the last few years trying to figure out FPV flying. We shared a love of all things techno-geeky and had a good time integrating this in to our radio control hobby. Loved Chuck's quirky sense of humor too. Interestingly, I met Chuck after he turned his radio on without checking the frequency board and blew me out of the sky!! Wasn't any real damage other than the walk of shame to retrieve my plane. 8^ I'm looking forward to spending time with Chuck in heaven... we can fly some First Person View with our own wings.

Chuck and I grew up in the same neighborhood. The Kacins lived just down the road 32nd and around the corner across from McEnenys. When we were very young we played together. As we got older our passions took us in different directions. I often wondered what ever happened to Chuck, now I know. So very sorry to hear of his passing. Johnny McDowell

I was deeply saddened to hear of Charles "BalsaBuster" passing a few days ago. Although I never met Charles personally, over the past couple of years we conversed back & forth enough on an internet board we both like to frequent, it feels like I have known him for a long time.
I always enjoyed discussing all things RC with him, and being a newcomer to the world of RC planes I was quite flattered when he praised my flight videos, and I was very appreciative when he offered advice. His depth of knowledge of the hobby was amazing as was his willingness to help greenhorns like myself.
He will be missed by all of us here in our closely knit "cyber-family", and he will be fondly remembered.

Chris, James, Bruce and family,
I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad. He sounds like he was an amazing man and touched a lot of peoples lives.
If I could, I'd fly the flags here at Portland International Airport at half-staff in honor of your father, but instead, I'll fly a virtual windsock in his memory.

I'd only known Chuck for the short 10 years I have been a member of Fern Prairie Modelers club but I wish I had known him longer. I can see now why he loved all the high tech gadgets he had, he had spent a life time using and enjoying them. He always amazed me.
There were a few things he and I had in common other than the love of flying rc planes and one was he liked to listen to traditional jazz music as I do. One event day at the flying field he parked his pick-up next to mine and when he opened the door a wonderful sound came from that opened door and it was pure old simple Dixie Land Jazz, boy I was glad he had parked next to me for he left that music on for a long time during that day.
Chuck was a good man, honest, straight forward with his remarks and it was just a pleasure to be around him. We at the flying club are really going to miss him, no more Chuck Kacin walking up and down the pit area with a half smoked cigarette in his hand ready to help anyone who needed it.

Charles made up 25% of a WHS '59 musical and social group that referred to themselves as the Magnus Quattor. Walter Black, Rod Carr, Gary Morgan and Charles survived the social jungle of puberty and high school by watching each others backs, enjoying band, Latin and science and marveling at the dynamics of the local scene. The world is a better place for his having inhabited it and I will miss him.

Dearest Chris, James and family...
What a shock to hear of Chuck's passing. All the fun times I've had with your Mom and Dad. Countless boat outings on the river, dinners and get-togethers. They were such a wonderful couple and never a dull moment.
He did have a wicked sense of humor. I recall one outing in their boat and noticed that your dad's tennis shoes did not match. I asked him if he had noticed that and he said "yep." I then asked him how the hell that happened. He said "Well, I went to G.I. Joes, tried on one shoe, fit great, so bought 'em. Got home and saw that the other one didn't match, but they feel so good on, I thought 'why change a good thing'." Classic Chuck!
You, James and all who knew your Dad have so many fond memories of him. He will truly be missed by so many.
Love, Peggy
