Obituary of Burton Winfield Schroeder

BURTON W. SCHROEDER April 7, 1928 – February 9, 2010 Burton Winfield Schroeder was born in Woodstock, IL on April 7, 1928. Before graduating high school, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout including three Eagle Palms and thoroughly enjoyed playing trombone in many bands. After graduating from Carthage College he entered Chicago Lutheran Seminary, graduating with a Master of Divinity degree in 1953. He was ordained in Springfield, IL at Grace Lutheran Church on May 18, 1953, and was called to serve Nativity Lutheran Church, a mission in Wonder Lake, IL. In 1961 he received a call from another mission congregation, St. Andrew in Beaverton, OR, where he served until November 1969, when he was called to Zion Lutheran Church in Camas, WA. In 1980, Burt accepted a call to St. Luke in Spokane, WA, and in 1986 his fifth call was to Resurrection in Tacoma, WA. After retiring in 1993 Burt served four more congregations as an interim pastor, including Milwaukie Lutheran Church in Oregon and Family of God in Federal Way, WA. After moving back to Camas in 2000, he rejoined Zion as visitation pastor. Burt was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, and 2 young sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lois, and five children, Sally Freed Ron, Steve Jana, Jim Jean, John, and Sue, and by his sister, Marlene Botts of Woodstock, IL, plus six grandchildren, Kira, Ryne, Bryce, Brock, Katie, and Kamryn. Burton's life will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 12pm at Zion Lutheran Church in Camas, WA. Private burial services will be held at 11am on Sat. at the Camas Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 12 from 10am to 5pm at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas.
