Obituary of Elizabeth Caroline Locke

Elizabeth C. Locke Elizabeth â??Bettyâ?? Locke, long time resident of the Washougal area, passed away in her sleep at home Friday morning, August 29, 2008. She was born on October 4, 1917 in Cedar Mills, OR to Phillip and Helen Streib. Betty grew up in Milwaukie, OR playing the mandolin with her siblingsâ??starring on the KOIN radio station. While attending Milwaukie High School, she earned the honor of a â??starâ?? letter for holding the positions of team captain in volleyball, basketball, and softball. Throughout her 90 years, Elizabeth experienced many wonderful things. She opened an ice cream store in Seattle, was a private detective during the Great Depression, and ran a coffee and donut shop in Newport, OR. Locally, Betty worked at Crown Zellerbach in the bag factory, D&H Sheet Metal, Evergreen Realty, and Locke Auto Supply. Before retiring, she owned and ran Bettyâ??s For Beauty and Carolynâ??s Beauty Salon. During retirement, Betty enjoyed her grandchildrenâ??s special events, oil painting, porcelain doll making, going to the beach, rooting for the Mariners on TV, attending senior bus trips to several casinos, and spending time with family and friends. In 1936 Elizabeth married Franklin Moore, and Kenneth Locke in 1949. She is survived by daughters Carolyn Lynn Israel Jack of Vancouver, Peggy Locke-Dunn John of Olympia, and Betty Lou Barber Chuck of Washougal. Also, 13 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Elizabeth was preceded in death by husband Kenneth Locke, sisters Hazel Keechle of Portland and Evelyn Streib of Vail, OR. She is survived by brothers Fred Streib of Wenatchee and Wayne Marshall of Portland, numerous nieces and nephews, and special friend Tony Daquilante. Services will be held at Straubâ??s Funeral Home in Camas, WA on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10am to 5pm and on Thursday starting at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Columbia Gorge Humane Society, 2675 Index Street, Washougal, WA 98671.
