Obituary of Albert E. Bennett

Albert E. Bennett, 77 of Washougal WA passed away at his home surrounded by his wife and children on April 4, 2012. He was born July 15, 1934 in Attleboro, MA to Albert and Ida Kellogg Bennett. He grew up in Attleboro and worked there in the jewelry manufacturing industry. He later worked in the jewelry industry in the Boston area before opening his own custom jewelry and repair shops there. When the family relocated to the Washougal area Al worked as a goldsmith at Runyan's Jewelers in Vancouver for twenty three years until he retired. After retirement Al was able to spend more time on his wood carving. He was a member of Feather and Quill Carvers of Vancouver WA and participated in their annual fall show, as well as enjoying the camaraderie of weekly groups. He treasured the hand carved Friendship Cane presented to him by one group. Al is survived by his wife Ruthie Coughlin Bennett of Washougal, WA; his son Jason Bennett of Vancouver, WA; his daughter Caitlin Bennett and son-in-law Jeremy Boyer of Bellingham, WA; sisters Lorraine Androw of Pawtucket, RI; Mavis Hemeon of Richmond Hill, GA; Shirley Goff and husband Earl of Rehoboth, MA; brother Richard and wife Phyllis Bennett of Depew, NY many nieces and nephews and his lap cat, Carmella. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law Joe Androw and Phil Hemeon; and his nephew David Hemeon. To honor Al's wishes there will be no service. He will be cremated with his ashes to be sprinkled in a beautiful location by his children. Arrangements by Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation of Camas, WA. Memorial contributions may be made in Al's name to the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon @ PO Box 82734, Portland OR 97282, or any local humane society or organization pertaining to nature or the outdoors.
