GEORGE ARTHUR BURNETT
George Arthur Burnett passed away Saturday, November 24, 2007 with his family by his side. He was 89 years old. George was born May 29, 1918, in Sifton, Clark County, WA, to Charles and Ida Burnett, one of eight children. His family homestead where he was raised is now the site of Sifton Elementary School and the new Kaiser Medical Office. The white farm house which his father built still remains on the property.
George spent his entire life in Clark County. During his life he spent time working at the Camas Paper Mill, the Vancouver Housing Authority, and eventually retiring from the Clark County Public Works Department in 1980.
In 1941 he married Mary Gill. Together over 65 years, they raised four children: Naomi James Seattle, WA, Carolyn Fisher Seattle, WA, Gary Burnett Washougal, WA and Wendy Leonard Vancouver, WA. The family continued to grow with the addition of eleven grandchildren: Chris, Eric, Bryan, Cheryl, Catherine, Christy, Nicolas, Craig, Holly, Josh and Patty. The family continued on with nine great-grandchildren: Erin, Joe, Katheryn, Andrew, Anna, Jayden, Lauren, Brady and Madison. On February 21, 2007, George was blessed with a great-great-grandson, Julian Ryan. His family meant everything to him. Cookies, warm fires, family gatherings, coffee breaks, and always taking the time to tell a story...this incredible man will be greatly missed.
The memorial service will be held at Straub's Funeral Home, 325 NE Third Ave., Camas, WA, at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 1, 2007. A reception will immediately follow at the Camas Friends Church, 1004 NE 4th Avenue.
