Obituary of Phyllis H. Sykes

PHYLLIS H. SYKES Phyllis H. Sykes, age 84, passed away at home in Washougal on October 25, 2007. She was born January 2, 1923 in Phillip, SD to Charles and Mary Miles Mower. She lived in Cottonwood, SD until moving to the Camas/Washougal area when she was 8 years old. Phyllis met Cletis Davis and married him in 1940. After his death in 1970 she married John Sykes in 1972. He passed away in 1998. Phyllis was a member of the Washougal United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary and Heartfelt Quilters. She enjoyed quilting and made many quilts for several charities. She also did knitting, crocheting and sewing. Her family was her life and she was proud of them. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra Havrelly of Washougal, Rose Sadewasser of Vancouver, Charlene Smiley of Rainier, OR, Cleta Gilman of Washougal; sons, Grover Davis of Port Orchard, WA, James Davis of Washougal; 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. A graveside service with vault interment will be Tuesday, October 30 at 10am at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service will be Saturday, November 3 at 11am at the Washougal United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Monday, October 29 from10am to 5pm at Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas.
