Mary Elizabeth Reinhart Stefan
Mary Stefan, age78, passed away Monday, October 1, 2007 at home in Camas. Mary was born in Dallas, TX on October 9, 1928 to Arthur J. and Theresa Reinhart. In 1938 they moved to Salem, OR where she graduated from Salem High School in 1946. She then attended Oregon State University where she received a bachelor?s degree in Business Administration in 1950. Mary worked for Crown Zellerbach ?s Personnel Office in Camas for five years before going to work for the US Army as a civilian employee. After working for the Army in Germany and Washington, D.C. she returned to Portland in 1960 and worked for the Georgia Pacific Corporation. She worked there until 1976 when she married Dr. K.F. Stefan, MD. Together they moved to Washougal and in 1986 they built a home in Camas where she resided until her death.
Mary was an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camas and a founding member of the Catholic Daughters America at St. Thomas. She also volunteered her time with the Red Cross Blood Donor Program and the Camas School District with the reading program. Mary had been a longtime member and Secretary of the Two Rivers Heritage Museum in Washougal.
Mary was devoted to her family, friends and her faith. She enjoyed the Oregon Symphony, Native Indian Art, crafted needlepoint and enjoyed reading and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. K.F. Stefan in 1992 and brother, William A. Reinhart in 1988.
Survivors include her son, Wallis K. Stefan of Battle Ground, WA; nieces, Rebecca Palmer of Spokane, WA, Suzie Ness of Seattle, WA; nephew William Reinhart of Southlake, TX and two granddaughters.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, October 4, at 11am at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Camas. Vault interment will follow at the Camas Cemetery.
