Dear Gary and family,
We are so saddened to learn of your sorrow. It was one of the blessings of our lives to have you for next door neighbors. Knowing how impossible it is to do or say anything to ease your sorrow, we wanted you all to know that our prayers are with you.

Julie and families~
I am so sorry to hear of your loss and my prayers reach out to all of your family. It amazes me how the human spirit gives us the strength to pick ourselves up and function when we\'ve been dealt such a heart breaking loss.
Your mother was such an amazing woman, and I always respected and admired her as did many others. My memories are mostly from our teenage years, and oh how I remember your Mom chiding you to "pick up your room young lady!". Somehow that never quite happened and you managed to win her over and she never quite grounded you over that one anyway. Martha Anne was a wonderful Mom, and I always enjoyed our little chats the two of us had together while we were waiting for you to get ready! Cherish your memories of her, laugh about the little things, and give your family extra love in the days ahead. I will be keeping you all in my prayers.
Love,
SharlaRae Stuber-Kuka

Martha Anne and I were colleague and friends; I enjoyed her thoroughly in both roles.
She provided me with the funniest incident I\'ve ever encountered in 30-odd years of faculty meetings.
Martha had just returned from completing her doctorate in Hawaii--at that first fall meeting, she raised her hand to speak after I had congratulated her on her accomplishment. As I recall her words, she said "I have heard that the best way to get ahead in the world is to give the president a good lay."
Whereupon she came to the front of the room and placed a beautiful Lei around my neck! The applause and laughter were deafening--unusual in a faculty meeting, to say the least.
But that was Martha Anne. The world is a smaller place without her humor, her competence, and her kindness.I shall miss her.

Gary & Family:
For over 60 + years our Families have had such binding ties, ones that can only be broken, as is the case now, through the major loss of Martha Anne. Having lived across the street from the Eudy\'s for so many years, makes this new journey in life, so much more difficult, as she was like a Sister to all of us, living so close and yet in past years, the miles between so far. Such wonderful memories flood our minds, as we look back over the years, having been so blessed with such caring and true friendships, not seen in todays busy world. Having been raised in Havre made our lives so very special, yet through distances and many life changes, we remain the same, though less frequent the journeys we make to come together.
We little knew that day, that God was going to call Martha Anne\'s name. In life we loved her dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose her, she did not go alone; for part of us went with her, the day God called her home. She left us peaceful memories, her love is still our guide; and though we cannot see her, she is always at our side.
Your Family Chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, The Chain will link again.
May your lasting Memories of such a wonderful Lady, Wife, Sister, Mother, Grandmother, Educator and Friend bring you and others comfort now and forever.
Martha Anne will Forever remain in Our Hearts.

Gary and kids, you are in my thoughts and prayers. As one of the first graduates of the Water Wastewater Tech Program at NMC, Martha was one of the most influential and beloved people in my life. She was always available for advise and counsel. Once, when I asked her how I could ever repay her for all she had done to provide me with direction and guidance, she requested that I only, "Do it for someone else, Kate." - A request that I have honored for over 25 years in state and academic service. Martha lives on in the hearts and minds of the people she has touched. Thanks for sharing her.

Gary, Julie, Jerilyn, Kevin and families -
A favorite quote of mine is: ?Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for awhile and leave footprints on our hearts. And we are never, ever the same?
This is what Martha Anne was to me. She was such an important person in my life as a teacher, mentor and friend. Martha Anne was a huge influence in the direction of my career path, but she also gave me such inspiration to attain high goals for myself as she had done throughout her career and life.
Matha Anne and I shared many laughs and hard work slaving away on a number of committes, workshops and the Water Quality Program at Northern. We also attended a few Water Environment Federation conventions together including the San Francisco event which turned into the "Earthquake Event"!
We were outside the Mascone Convention Centerall glass and looking for the bus to take us to the Black and Veatch Engineering Firm\'s dinner when it happened, Martha Anne started screaming and grabbed for my hand. She said later, she thought SHE was having a heart attack not an earthquake happening! The rest is history as we made our way to the Top of the Mark Hotel where I think Julie picked her up as you were living close by there!
I have many happy memories of her and will cherish them.
I was so glad to have seen her this August, although a short visit we caught up very fast on everything and everyone is our lives.
She had a twinkle in her eye when she told me, I feel better, so I know I will get better and with that I left. I don\'t think I would have left that day if not for her encouraging note. But that was Martha\'s way, always encouraging, supportive, and positive that is what I will remember. I hope to carry on what she has instilled in me throughout all her teachings and just being her. A life well lived!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you this week and next. Love to you all.

I was saddened to hear about the loss of Martha Anne as she was a great leader to OIT and will be missed by all that knew her.

Dear Gary, Jerilyn, Julie & Kevin,
I was one of Martha Anne\'s microbiology lab assistants at NMC-Havre. I I proctored many a lab quiz and microbiology test for Martha Anne. i was very saddened to thear this news of her passing. Martha Anne allowed me to take her personal vehicle out to Beaver Creek so that I may complete my sampling for the Beaver Creek Study Class that I was required to do. I have never forgotten her generosity and her belief in me to be an operator/Lab tech. at the Great Falls Water Treatment Plant. She drove to Great Falls to visit with me and to stop me from quitting my job. Her willingness to encourage me to stay in my job was her great gift to me. She has a special place in heart. she will always be my mentor, my friend, and my advisor. She was my inspiration to take the job i currently hold. i am an Environmetal Scientist working for my Tribe, the Fort Peck Assiniboin-Sioux Tribes. I have been employed for 15 years. I sample the seven major wadeable rivers and strewam. And I have taken on the EMAP protocols to sample the Missouri River. My accomplishments were her accomplishments.
My Sincerest Sympathies to you and yours.

To the family of DFr. martha Anne Dow, I express my deepest sympathies. I have known Dr. Dow, Martha Anne, for over 20 years. I consider her a great and fine personal friend. Even the work I do has the hand prints of Martha Anne\'s efforts from years ago. We worked together on several activities before she left for Oregon and a couple since she has been there. Just to name a few: the Montana Environmental Training Center and all the operator training sessions, especially, the Yellow Bay sessions, the National Environmental Trainers Association, the Montana Water Environment Association; and, Partnership for Environmental Training in Education, and, co-training with Dr. Dow at the 1995 Yellow Bay workshop. She left a big set of foot steps to fill when she left Montana and now she has left an even bigger impact on all of us.

Martha Anne has continued to touch lives in Montana as well since retiring and moving to Oregon in 1992.
Martha Anne was such an inspiration to me and the directions I have taken in my life. She was always there willing to listen and advise and encourage when she was at MSU-Northern. Even after Martha Anne and Gary moved to Oregon I knew I could still call on Martha any time and visit and ponder with her what next.
She is the primary reason I went back to pursuing my interest in science and math and am still working in the water and wastewater field 18 years later. Martha Anne will always have a special place in my heart.
I too can picture Martha\'s smile and hear her laughter. And her unending energy to accomplish all she could every day.
Gary, I also remember a time when Martha got real stern with you and said "Gary don\'t swear infront of Barb." Your reply was "she\'s a farm kid I\'m sure she\'s heard it before."
Gary, you and your family in are my thoughts and prayers.

As is true with all of us, I have been thinking a lot about my Aunt Marthanne over the past several months. In my mind\'s eye, I see her sweet smile and her beautiful face, and I hear her laughter. I actually have to strain my mind in order to be able to picture Marthanne without a smile - it is almost impossible to do. What I will remember most about Marthanne, though, is her strong embrace and her warm, wonderful voice when she would greet me, "Hi Bren!!" she would say, always with sincere enthusiasm. My type-written words can\'t even come close to conveying all the warmth and kindness that I felt when I was in Marthanne\'s presence. Besides being a wonderful aunt, Marthanne was also a brilliant, accomplished woman and I am so proud to call her my family. She did so much with the gifts God gave her and she touched the lives of so many. She will continue to touch the lives of countless people for years and years to come from her work at Oregon Tech. I will really miss her.
