Obituary of Fern Marguerite Paul

Fern Marguerite Paul Fern Paul, a Washougal resident, died in Washougal on Wednesday September 5th. She was 93. Mrs. Paul was born March 4, 1914 in Merna, Nebraska to Resmina Knudsen and William Schachterle. Her family moved to northeastern Colorado when she was four and she grew up on a dry land farm there. She graduated and got her BA degree from Colorado State Teachers College in Greeley, CO. She taught school in Colorado, New Mexico and Washington. She met and married Bradley Paul in Tacoma Oct. 25, 1947. They moved to California, Arizona and the Philippines before Bradley retired. They settled in Skamania in 1962. Mr. Paul died in 1965. Fern moved to Washougal in 1999. She was a substitute teacher after her children were born and taught in every elementary school in the area. She was very active in the United Methodist Women in Stevenson. She also enjoyed gardening and needlework. Mrs. Paul is survived by her children Judy Reid of Gig Harbor, WA and Carl Paul and Sally Godwin, both of Washougal; Brothers Lawrence Schachterle of Milwaukee, WI, Robert Schachterle of Sacramento, CA and Pat Schachterle of Vancouver, WA; sister Aldean Ostrander of Olney, IL as well as 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Memorial services for Fern Paul will be Friday September 14, 2007 at 11AM at the United Methodist Church in Stevenson, WA. Private inurnment with her husband will take place at a later date at Lincoln Memorial Park in Portland. The family suggests that memorials in Fern?s name be made to the Stevenson United Methodist Church or a children?s charity of your choice.
