Glenn Hardinger Beatty
December 10, 1926 ? August 3, 2007
Forever in our hearts
Glenn was born in Manzanola, Colorado to John Walker and Emma Beatty and was the youngest of their children. He joined the Army and was stationed in Germany during the allied occupation in 1946. Upon returning to the States, he traveled with his brother to Fresno to enroll in Barber College. Mom says she remembers the day when this cute boy with wavy hair walked in the room. Thus began a love affair that lasted a lifetime. They married in 1948 and spent the next 59 years setting a wonderful example of what a truly loving, committed relationship is.
Glenn and Elaine settled in Santa Clara, California where he was a loyal employee of several Chevrolet dealerships. He ended his working career at the City of Santa Clara, Parks Department. Upon retirement, Glenn and Elaine moved to Loveland, Colorado. While there, they were very involved in the annual Valentine Remailing Program and worked as volunteers at the City Visitor Center. In 2004 they moved to Vancouver, WA to be near their daughter and son-in-law.
Dad was such a kind-hearted, loving and gentle man. He was always willing to help in any way he could. Daddy was the ultimate handyman. Whatever the project, he would read, study and figure out what needed to be done, whether it was plumbing, electrical, carpentry, gardening or auto mechanics. He wanted to learn to fly, so he went to school and got his private pilot?s license. He taught himself how to use the computer to send emails to his girls and to research the details of his brother?s death in Australia during WW II. He traveled to Australia in 2000 to attend a special commemoration of a memorial to honor his brother.
He enjoyed camping and travelling throughout the U.S., gardening, reading and home improvement projects. But Glenn?s greatest joy in life was found within his family. There were many of us to take care of him, but actually he took care of all of us.
His parents, all of his siblings, and an infant daughter, Patricia, predecease Glenn. He is survived by his loving wife Elaine, daughters Doris Anderson Washougal, WA and Pauline Beatty San Jose, CA, sons-in-law Doug Anderson, Doug Calicchio and Nick Matulich. Grand daughters Dena Hyland, Sandy and Lindsay Calicchio and great grandchildren Taylor, Cameron and Ayden, and a baby boy on the way! Glenn loved and was loved by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Dad was diagnosed with Leukemia in April, and true to his character, faced the battle with bravery. We are very grateful to the staff of Kaiser Hospice for their support and care.
In accordance with Dad?s wishes, no memorial service will be held. If you?d like to honor Dad?s life, please make a donation to your local veteran?s group or humane society, and then toast him with a chocolate milkshake.
Dad always had funny little sayings....so Dad, there you are, home again, home again, jiggity, jig. We love you and will miss you terribly.
