Obituary of Geneva Pauline Lucas

Geneva Pauline Brundage Lucas died at the age of 94 on May 20, 2007. She was born to Roscoe and Margaret Bailey Brundage on October 5th, 1912, in Cherokee, Kansas. She lived through the fist of the great depression and the dust bowl years in Kansas. She and her family moved to Camas in the early 1930?s to find work. She loved to dance at the Grange Hall dances, and that was how she met and subsequently married Don Earl Donald Lucas in 1933. She worked at Swank Memorial Chapel in Camas for several years, and she worked at the Crown Zellerbach paper mill in the bag factory. During WWII she worked as a nurse at the Kaiser Permenente Hospital in Vancouver.
In the early ?40?s Don and his brother LaMont purchased a short order restaurant in Camas, Cowan?s Cigar Store. After LaMont was hired by the Camas Police Department, Don and Geneva operated the restaurant for more than 33 years. She was active in the Pythian Sisters, holding several local and state offices.
She was preceded in death by her husband, mother, step-father Reber Hyde, brother Eugene Roscoe Brundage, and sister Louise Leach. She is survived by a son by adoption, Garry Lucas, grandchildren Cheryl Mark Bastian, and Maria Peter O?Hara; great-grandchildren Evan, Garry, James and Andrew Bastian; Cherene, Jestann, and Stephanie O?Hara.
A memorial service will be held at Straub?s Funeral Home on Saturday, May 26th, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. with interment at the Camas Cemetery.
