HAROLD EVERETT SLEIGHT
Harold Sleight, of Washougal, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2007 in Vancouver. He was 84. Harold was born May 12, 1922 in Spooner, WI to Joseph and Myrtle Sleight. He graduated from Spooner High School and joined the Air Force. Mr. Sleight retired from the military as a Master Sergeant after 40 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Harold attended Northland College in Ashland, WI and later Clark College in Vancouver. He worked in the store room at Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill and later retired from there. Mr. Sleight served five terms on the Washougal City Council and one term on the Port of Camas/Washougal. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 14, Air Force Sergeant?s Assoc. and the AARP. Many remember Mr. Sleight for his many letters which appeared in the Columbian Newspaper.
He is survived by his wife, Rita, at home; son, Jeff Sleight of Vancouver; daughter, Shirley Toner of Beaverton, OR; sister, Janice Cagle of Washougal; stepchildren, Michael LaBarre of LaCenter, Shelly Armstrong of Portland, Jacque Altom of Camas; grandchildren, Chad Sleight, Robert and Andrea Toner; 7 step-grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 31 at 12pm at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday March 27 and Wednesday, March 28 from 10am to 5pm at Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas. To send condolences or to sign the online guestbook visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com
