I didn\'t know Steve very well, but I knew him through all the "mill stories" my dad would share with us. I do remember always seeing Steve at baseball games and other sporting events growing up. I know my dad will miss Steve very much, as we all will. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

You learn quickly in grade school and then again in junior high and high school, that if your last name is Aspitarte, there will be a kid directly behind you with the name Barnes. And you learn quickly that some of the things that he suggest you do while the teacher\'s back is turned may not be in your best interest. I ran into Steve about 3 months ago in Safeway and while we exchanged pleasantries with his everpresent grin, I couldn\'t help but notice that he was still checking to see if the teacher\'s back was turned. This is how I will remember him

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I feel blessed that my life crossed paths with Steve. From playing on the first Babe Ruth team he coached, to the unexpected meetings over the years, to seeing him on a regular basis at work. We will all miss his smile, sense of humor and integrity. We are all better people for having known Steve and there will be something missing in all our lives without him.

Matt,
I am so sorry for your and the family\'s loss. I wish I could be down there to give you my condolences in person, but just know that you and Tyler, Chelsea, and Blake and Cody are in my thoughts. Your dad always made me laugh and it makes me smile just thinking how you and I listened to the same great Camas High School stories growing up. I\'m sure you\'ll remember all of them, but know that my dad would be happy to share one with you any time you need. I\'ll be in touch....take care of each other....NICKI

I grew up with Steve, and although we have not seen each other a lot in recent years, I carry with me extremely fond memories of our times together, whether pulling pranks in church, going to camp together, staying over at each other\'s house, attending baseball games, riding horses, going swimming in LaCamas Lake, double dating, among other things. Upon reflection, I think one could say that he was actually my oldest friend, as we have known each other since early youth. He was the kind of guy whom people loved, and who almost always had a smile on his face, and made others smile, too. My prayers and thoughts are with the entire family at this very difficult time. God be with you.
