Bernard was born and raised in Whitefish, Montana, and graduated from the University of Montana. On August 8th, 1943, during his World War II military service, Bernard married Marjorie Lemire of Ronan, Montana. After the war Bernard and Marjorie moved to Camas, Washington, where they both worked at the Crown Zellerbach paper mill while raising their five children. Marjorie succumbed to cancer in 1972 and Bernard retired in 1978. Bernard had athletic and musical hobbies that kept him busy almost into his 90?s. He was a long-time skier, having begun his skiing on Big Mountain, near Whitefish, before the mountain had a name. He also loved to golf and had two holes-in-one during his 70?s and 80?s. Bernie loved playing the piano, organ, and upright bass, and played in many combos and orchestras through the years. Although he is gone, his sons and daughters are all proud of their father and all of life?s lessons that he helped guide them through. Through them, and everyone else who had known him, he will live on in our hearts and minds. Funeral Services are under the direction of Straub?s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas.
