Irvin Ingvald Ulver
Irvin Ulver passed away December 10, 2006 in Camas at the age of 93. Irvin was the youngest of three children, born December 1, 1913 in South Dakota to early Norwegian immigrants.
On the death of his father, the family moved to Long Beach, California where he was educated and became an Eagle Scout at the age of 18. He joined the California Conservation Corps in the early 1930's in the Big Bear area, to support his family in the midst of the depression. Later he becoming a Foreman Electrician at the Richmond Shipyards in California when World War II started. He married the love of his life, Dorothy Ada, in 1939 and enjoyed 66 years of married bliss until Dorothy's death in October, 2005 in Highland Terrace. They lived for over 40 years in the
''Norwood'' area of Camas, until Irvin moved to The Hampton in Vancouver, then to Highland Terrace in Camas for his final days, amongst his loving friends.
In 1943 he joined the U.S. Navy, serving as a ''Seabee,'' then serving in Leyte, Philippines as an Electrician, during World War II in 1944/45. After the war the family lived in Salt Lake City moving to Camas in the late 1940's then moving back to Utah, finally settling in Camas in 1961. Irvin worked for Crown Zellerbach until he retired in 1976. He enjoyed semi retirement, working for Roger Wandry making Leaded Glass windows and Domes, until his hands gave out. Occasionally, he made leaded windows and lamps in the 'Tiffany Style' for his family and friends to treasure. An avid member of the Sons of Norway Lodge in Vancouver, he enjoyed Tuesday mornings making ''Leskfa'' and other days building wooden Bird houses, Schools and Churches which the ladies at the 'Sons of Norway Lodge' loved to paint, in the ?Rosendal? Norwegian style. In his 80's his pride and joy was making the large stain glass window of a Viking Long Boat, which he made for the Sons of Norway Lodge staircase, later he made the Wooden Dragon, which spans the ridge of the roof on the Lodge in Vancouver. Other hobbies included, clock making, woodworking, gardening, and astronomy. A member of the Rose City Astronomer's Club he built many telescopes. His enthusiasm and delight was to give his family and friends with special viewings of many planets, moons and constellations.
Survived by his family of Son, John Irvin and Daughter-in- law, Irene of Stevenson, Grandson, John Arthur and Grand daughter-in- law, Valerie of Washougal, Grand daughter, Melissa Beauchamp and Grandson-in-law Beau of California. Great Grandson, Andrew Piazza of California. ''We all treasure the unique and beautiful memories, love and miss you forever!''
