RUBEN ARTHUR VOGEL
1923-2006
Ruben Arthur Vogel departed tills life on November 9,2006 in Vancouver, Washington, having reached the age of 83 years.
Ruben Vogel was born on May 14,1923 in Seward, Nebraska, the son of Reuben Vogel and his wife Nellie Huffman Vogel. In June of 1923 he was received into the kingdom of God through the washing of Holy Baptism at St. John Lutheran Church in Seward. At the age of 14 he became a communicant member of the Lutheran Church through the Rite of Confirmation at St. John Lutheran Church. He graduated from Seward High School in 1941.
Mr. Vogel was a veteran of World War II and served with the U. S. Army Signal Corps in the Solomon Islands. He moved to the state of Washington in June of 1946.
On August 30, 1947 he was united in Holy Matrimony with Carol Schwarz. They recently celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary. To this union were born five children: Daniel, Shirley, Sharleen, John, and Edward.
Ruben and Carol were active members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Washougal. He was also involved for many years with the Lutheran Laymen's League.
Ruben Vogel worked for Crown Zellerbach for 11 years. He then operated his own dairy farm north of Washougal for 20 years. He also drove school bus for the Washougal Schools for 12 years. Ruben was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
Survivors include his wife Carol, of Washougal, Washington; a sister Dorothy Daake of Hastings, Nebraska; a brother, Willis Vogel of Berea, Kentucky; Children: Daniel and his wife Sue of Washougal; Shirley Bundschuh and her husband Paul of Klickitat, Washington; Sharleen Hodnick and her husband Philip of Kingsburg, California; John of Washougal; and Edward and his wife Kelly of Washougal. Survivors also include six grandchildren: Carrie Vogel of Washougal, Ryan Vogel and his wife Hyunjin of Vancouver, Washington; Lori Wodtke and her husband Daniel of Vancouver; Rachel Bundschuh of Pullman, Washington; Sarah Bundschuh of Seward, Nebraska; and Shandell Vogel of Washougal. One great-grandchild survives: Haylana Wodtke of Vancouver.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Washougal on Wednesday, November 15 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Straub?s Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas.
