CHARLES ''CHUCK'' MELVIN MILLARD
Chuck was born in Seaside, OR on November 7, 1921 and died on October 14, 2006 surrounded by his loved ones. At age 5 his family left Seaside, OR by covered wagon moved to Eastern Washington. In 1928 his folks traded in the covered wagon for a Ford Model-T and moved to Camas, WA. Chuck served in the US Navy from 1942-46. The group he was with was known as the ?Pearl Harbor Avengers?. Their duties: Pulling duty in Pearl Harbor after the attack and cleaning up the aftermath. After returning home from the war, Chuck met his wife Margaret Keilholz, in St. Louis, Missouri. After a few short months, knowing he had found his life long companion they married on November 12, 1946. He then started working in the Paper Mill in Camas, WA at the rate of .92 an hour. Chuck was a Machine Tender on #6 Paper Machine most of his career. He retired from the Paper Mill in 1983 after serving 37 years. Chuck enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, gardening, and clamming. The joy of his life was his family and he loved taking his children and grandchildren camping. When sitting around home, he was either listening to country music on CMT or watching his favorite western show Bonanza.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, son, Marvin Millard, brothers, Lloyd, James and Kenneth Millard, and sister, Frances White.
Survivors include his children Linda Stewart, Janice Carroll. David Millard, Ronald Millard and Karen Gibbs; brothers, Clarence and Leonard Millard; 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Friday, October 20 at 11am at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 9am to 5pm at Straub?s Funeral Home. To send condolences or to sign the online guest book visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com.
