Obituary of Curtis J. McDowell

CURTIS J. McDOWELL Curtis McDowell, age 79, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2006 at home in Camas. He was born September 24, 1926 in Camas to Alonzo and Mamie Johnson McDowell. He was raised in Washougal and after finishing school he joined the Navy and served during WWII. When he returned home he went to barber school and owned his own shop before being called back to the Navy during Korea. Mr. McDowell went on to study business at the University of Washington and eventually returned to Camas in 1955 and worked at the paper mill. In 1966 he married Nadine Ford and retired from the mill in 1988. Curtis enjoyed fishing, square-dancing, traveling in his motor home and his dog, Gus. He is survived by his wife, Nadine, at home; children Liz Converse and Sandie Carper both of Vancouver, Al Shropshire of Camas and Gary Shropshire of Washougal; sister-in-law, Virginia McDowell of Nampa, ID; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be Wednesday, August 16 at 2:00 PM at Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas. Inurnment will be at the Camas Cemetery. Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas is in charge of the arrangements.
