Obituary of Joseph Charles Doyle

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joseph Charles Doyle, beloved husband for 49 years of Bridget Theresa Browne County Mayo Ireland, cherished father of Bob and Maureen, much loved father-in-law to Ellen, and honored grandfather of Kathleen, Erin, John and Maire entered into eternal rest on August 1st 2006. He was born September 3, 1919 in Chicago IL and was preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Dora, brother Thomas and sister Mary. A WWII veteran he served in the US Coast Guard aboard a Destroyer Escort in the Atlantic and Mediterranean seas. After the war he continued to serve spending 8 years as a policeman and 26 years as a fireman, both in Chicago, retiring in 1982 as a lieutenant. He was especially proud to have called Chicago his home and of his father's birth home of County Wexford Ireland and of his mother's North Wales heritage. Joe and Bridget moved to Vancouver WA in 1986 and Camas, WA in 2005 to be closer to family. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Josephs Church in Vancouver and St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Camas. Joe was an avid reader and he loved history, travel, and most of all to reminisce with family and friends. He kept abreast of local and international current affairs and could always be counted upon for the gift of good conversation and when he was feeling better, a well made Manhattan cocktail. Everyone was very welcome in the Doyle home. The sum of all his love and his service made a difference in our lives and we will greatly miss him. He leaves behind many good friends in the Vancouver and Chicago areas. Viewing/Visitation for family and friends will be at the Doyle home on Friday, August 4 from 5pm to 9pm and Saturday, August 5th from 4pm to 9pm. The Rosary will be recited at 7pm on Sunday, August 6th and the funeral mass at 11am Monday, August 7th at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Camas WA. Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas is in charge of the arrangements. To send condolences or to sign the online guest book visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com. Any contributions can be made to Hospice Southwest @ P.O. Box 1600, Vancouver, WA 98668, which was a great comfort to Joe and his family.
