Larry, Darla & Families,
Thank you for allowing me to spend time with your mom before she passed away. I will always remember what a special time Sherrie and I had being with her when we took her outside and gave her a bright pink flower to smell at the nursing home. She enjoyed being outside. I am glad that Sherrie and I had this special time with her before Laura passed away.
After living across the street from the Saari family home for so many years since I was 4 years old?let?s just say it has been close to 35 years now since we first met you each are like family to me. Laura was many things to me and my family. She was a mom, grandmother, cook, disciplinarian, gardener, teacher, and the most important a hero.
I think of many stories I could tell about Laura, the first memory I have is making pancakes with Darla the morning after I stayed the night. Darla and I tried to flip pancakes without a spatula?I can?t remember who was doing the flipping at the time but I do remember the pancake sticking to the ceiling. Laura very calmly told us to clean the ceiling off and to start using a spatula.
Laura loved her vegetable garden and shared it with everyone. She allowed Darla and me to make tuna fish salads for our friends and neighbors. We would cut off her lettuce heads and pick every carrot that was ready to eat and Laura never once complained. Laura did all the gardening work and Darla, the neighborhood kids and I all enjoyed the fruits of her labor.
In 1988 I had to leave my daughter, Ashley to go to college, I was scared. I didn?t want to leave her with anyone, she was only 7 months old. When Laura found out, she told me to bring Ashley over. Ashley loved Laura so much and vice versa. After being reminded of their love for each other I realized that Laura was the one I could leave Ashley with. I never worried about Ashley being in Laura?s care from that moment on. Laura also took very good care of my cousin Jeremy and my niece and nephew Denenne and Corey.
When Laura was watching Denenne, who was 3 years old and Corey, who was about 3 months old, a fire started in there home. Laura grabbed the children and walked through/next to a burning living room and kitchen through a patio door to save them. Laura received burns on the back of her arm and Corey had burns on his forehead, Denenne did not receive any burns. Laura was a hero to our family that day. The turn out could have been a lot different had she not been brave enough to walk so close to the fire. January 4th is the day this happened in 1996. January 4th is a day I always think of Laura and how grateful my family was for her bravery.
Laura was many things to several different people. Please remember Laura for who she was and not remember her for the disorders she had. Laura was loving, caring and deeply religious. The Alzheimer?s and bi-polar diseases were mean, aggressive, dishonest and confusing behaviors. We all noticed a change in her but we didn?t understand. In the last 15-20 years Laura taught us what to look for in other loved ones. Unfortunately for her, we did not catch the diseases in time to help her. The last few years of Laura?s life she became a different person because of these two diseases. She believed that if she gave all of her money away that she would be awarded millions of dollars. She believed that Larry and Cheryl were bad people. She believed that if she drove her car into the highway divider that she would go to Heaven. We all know now that she did not mean to give her money away, it was the disease. We all know now and we knew back then that Larry and Cheryl are not bad people; the things that Laura said were coming from a woman with severe dementia. We all know now that Laura would have went to Heaven had she driven her car into the highway divider because she was not well and was not able to think properly. We each need to forgive Laura for the things that she said and did that were not in her control; it was the Alzheimer?s and/or the bi-polar disease. Remember Laura the way I do, the loving, caring, giving neighbor and family member that she truly was, before she became ill.
Laura?.I know you are in Heaven with Jesus now. You impacted my life with several great memories. I will remember you for the wonderful person you were before you were ill. Walk the golden streets of Heaven with Gene and Grandma Grace. Hold your head high, smile big and watch over each of us, we love you and miss you.
Love,
Diane

ANGEL
GOD\'S GARDEN
God looked around his garden
And found an empty place,
He then looked down upon the earth
And saw your tired face.
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God\'s garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyelids
And whispered, \'Peace be Thine\'.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn\'t go alone,
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.

"Slipped Away"
Na na, na na na, na na
I miss you, miss you so bad
I don\'t forget you, oh it\'s so sad
I hope you can hear me
I remember it clearly
The day you slipped away
Was the day I found it won\'t be the same
Ooooh
Na na na na na na na
I didn\'t get around to kiss you
Goodbye on the hand
I wish that I could see you again
I know that I can\'t
Oooooh
I hope you can hear me cause I remember it clearly
The day you slipped away
Was the day I found it won\'t be the same
Ooooh
I had my wake up
Won\'t you wake up
I keep asking why
And I can\'t take it
It wasn\'t fake
It happened, you passed by
Now you are gone, now you are gone
There you go, there you go
Somewhere I can\'t bring you back
Now you are gone, now you are gone
There you go, there you go,
Somewhere your not coming back
The day you slipped away
Was the day i found it won\'t be the same noo..
The day you slipped away
Was the day that i found it won\'t be the same oooh...
Na na, na na na, na na

Wings Of The Angels
by Tim Chambers
A gentle wind blew cross the land
Reaching out to take a hand
For on the winds the angels came
Calling out a mother\'s name.
Left behind, the children\'s tears
Loving memories of the years
Of joy and love, a life well spent
And now to God a mother\'s sent.
On angel\'s wings, a heavenly flight
The journey home, towards the light
To those who weep, a life is gone
But in God\'s love, \'tis but the dawn.
Darla,
I want to extend my sympathies on the loss of your mother. My mother\'s name is Laura Belle, also....she was born in 1933. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
Lovever,
