Obituary of Ella Louise Vahsholtz

Ella Louise Vahsholtz Ella Louise Vahsholtz of Washougal died Friday April 21st in Vancouver. She was 84. Mrs. Vahsholtz was born June 28, 1921 in Clatskanie, Oregon to Henry H. and Ella L. Doran Owens. Her mother died at Ella?s birth. She was raised by her uncle Charlie Congers and his wife Lizzie. It was a loving family. She was valedictorian of her graduating class of 1939. She wanted to go to college but instead went to live with relatives in Camas where she eventually went to work at Crown Zellerbach. While working in the bag factory she met Lloyd Vahsholtz. He proposed over ice cream at the Cape Horn lookout. They were later married in September of 1942. After the war they returned from Arizona to live in Washougal. Ella volunteered her time freely between church, Girl Scouts and P.T. A. After her girls were raised she went to work for the Washougal School District as an aid, then general cook and then as head cook at WHS. Her cookie jar was always full and her door always open to students who wanted to talk. She had a gift for listening with her heart and her advice was to the point. Survivors include her husband Lloyd in Washougal; daughters Nancy MacLain of Eugene, Oregon, Joyce Hesla of Hermiston, Oregon and Barbara Dungan of Moses Lake, Washington brother Hank Owens of Rainier, Oregon; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Ella loved and cared for her family and many friends. She will be missed. Visitation will be Wednesday the 26th at Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas. Graveside services for Ella will be Thursday, April 27th at 11 AM at Washougal Memorial Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 12:30 PM at Church of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 16001 NE 162nd Ave., Vancouver, WA.
