Obituary of Maxinne Dolores Morris

Maxinne Dolores Morris, of Camas, passed away February 16 in Vancouver at the age of 79. She was born December 21, 1926 in Pueblo, CO to vaudeville parents Maxwell and Lillian McGill. She was a graduate of Camas High School and the Pasadena Playhouse. While attending Washington State University in Pullman she married her high school sweetheart Theodore Morris on November 26, 1946. They settled in Camas, Washington where they raised their family. Maxinne later graduated from Evergreen State College and Portland School of Beauty. She owned and operated the Glamour Room Beauty Salon in Camas; served on the Washington State Hair Fashion Committee and as a State Board Cosmetology Examiner; and as an instructor at the Vancouver School of Beauty. Maxinne was active in many community and civic activities. She performed with theatrical groups including the McGill Players and Blue Parrot Theater; instructed, danced and toured with a Middle Eastern Dance Troup; and was a published Laureate member of the International Society of Poets. Maxinne was chairman of the Camas/Washougal Bicentennial Committee; volunteered at the Washington Park Zoo where she did extensive elephant research. These studies took her to Alaska, Louisiana, California, Japan and Thailand. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, mentor and tutor in the Camas School District and as an assistant at the Shaffer Animal Clinic. Maxinne was a devote loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She showed unconditional love to all and leaves behind Ted, her husband of 59 years; three children Cresoula Leszczynski, Candace Michener, and Demetrious Morris; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A Trisagion Service will be held at Straub's Funeral Home February 21, 2006 at 6 PM. Her funeral will be February 22 at 11 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 3131 NE Glisan Street, Portland, Oregon. Graveside services will follow at 1 PM at the Camas Cemetery, concluding with a reception at St. John's Presbyterian Church in Camas. Maxinne was passionate about life and her interests so vast that the family suggests any donations be made to the charity of your choice.
