CORNELIA MAY RUSSELL
May Russell, age 89, passed away Thursday, February 23 in Vancouver. She was born October 1, 1916 in Victoria, B.C. to Dr. Walter and Agnes Hughes Bavis. She grew up in Canada and married Charles Butcher. They had three children and he passed away in 1942. May then married Douglas Russell in 1949 and they moved to the Portland area. She went back to school when her children were grown and received her LPN degree. May went to work for various nursing homes and hospitals in Portland. Douglas passed away in 2000 and May then moved to Vancouver. She was a former member of the Tremont Evangelical Church in Portland and enjoyed knitting and crocheting for her family. She loved nature, cooking and growing and planting things. May was an ideal grandmother and doted on her grand and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Ronald Russell of Surprise, AZ, Robert Lloyd Russell of Camas, WA; daughter, Agnes Lucille Treichler of Portland, OR; brother, Walter Bavis of Vancouver, B.C.; sister, Evelyn Cox of Vancouver, B.C.; 7 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
A memorial service and reception will be held at Straub?s Funeral Home, Wednesday, March 1 at 2pm. Private burial will be at Riverview Cemetery in Portland.
