ROY R. GILLHAMER
Roy Gillhamer, of Camas, passed away Sunday, October 30 in Vancouver, He was 81.
Roy was born July 24, 1924 in Fresno, CA where he grew up. He enlisted in the Army Air Force on 1943 and was discharged in 1946. Roy returned to Fresno and worked as a mechanic and race car driver. He worked on Johnny Boyd?s pit crew in Indianapolis and even raced sprints and midgets against A.J. Foyt and other well known racers. In the 1960?s he stopped racing due to an accident but continued to work on race cars. Upon his retirement, 11 years ago, he moved to Camas to be with family. Roy is in Fresno?s Racing Hall of Fame and was a in a 4-whell drive club there. He loved gardening, fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his son, Howard Gillhamer of Camas; sisters, Esther Bishel and Millie Brown; and 2 grandchildren.
