Obituary of Irene Florence Bolger

IRENE FLORENCE BOLGER Irene Bolger, age 94, passed away Sunday, September 11 in Vancouver. She was born March 24, 1911 in St. Maries, ID to Olaf and Rosie Vang, both immigrants from Norway. They settled in Kellogg, ID where her father owned and operated Vang?s shoe shop. Irene graduated from Kellogg High School and attended the University of Idaho and latter the Business College of Spokane.. While working for an attorney in Kellogg she met Robert Bolger and they were married on July 26, 1936. The couple moved to Washougal on September 1, 1937 and started the Bolger Pharmacy. Irene was a homemaker until her children left home. She then worked as the bookkeeper for the Bolger Pharmacy until her and Robert?s retirement in August of 1975. After retiring Robert and Irene made numerous trips to Europe including her parents homeland in Norway. Irene enjoyed gardening and traveling but in her earlier years enjoyed golfing, skiing and fishing. She was a member of the Bethel Community Church and has been active with that church since her arrival to Washougal in 1937. Irene also volunteered at the Treasure House. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert on August 31, 2002 and also her sister Alice, three brothers, Victor, George and Lloyd and one grandson, Brent. She is survived by her two sons, Robert W. Bolger of Vancouver and Richard Bolger of Camas; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 15 at 11am at Bethel Community Church in Washougal. Visitation will be Wednesday from 12pm to 5pm at Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas. Vault interment will be at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery. Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas is in charge of the arrangements.
