Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
ALICE GRACE SNOEY Grace Snoey, 86, of Washougal, died peacefully on July 21, 2005 at ?The Hampton? in Vancouver. She was born June 19, 1919 in Camas, WA. She married Martin L. Snoey on June 20, 1942. They had celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this summer. She is survived by husband, Martin L.; sister, Janet Slater Dave of California; sons, Martin R. Barbara of Mercer Island, WA, Arthur Betsie of Mukilteo, WA, Roger Barbara of Vancouver, WA; nine grandchildren, Andrew, John, Gretchen, Angela, Anthony, Marcus, Stephanie, Jennifer, Ashley; and four great grandchildren, Elise, Evan, Rebekah, and Jordan. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Alice Blake, sister, Madge and brother, Leighton. While attending Camas High School, she was active in many organizations and activities. In one of these she was voted Queen Grace I of basketball in her senior year in 1937. Grace was very involved in the First Christian Church of Camas throughout her life. She dedicated her life to God by being baptized in January of 1939. Her involvement in the church and the work of the Lord were very important to her. In her early adult life, she worked at a service station, ice cream parlor, Cornet store and as a licensed beautician after graduating from Western Beauty College in 1939. Then she turned her attention and skills to being a full time wife and loving mother to their three sons. She was involved in serving as den mother for Cub and Boy Scouts of America, helped with Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams, and along with Martin, helped build these programs for Camas and Washougal. Grace loved to bowl and was an accomplished bowler at Riverside Bowl for many years. Her love of sports never waned. Her passion started with playing on the town teams in her youth to playing football, basketball, and baseball with her sons and grandchildren in the yard into her seventies. And, if you wanted to know anything about the Trail Blazers, all you had to do was ask Grace. Grace and Martin loved to travel. They went on trips all over the United Stated and Europe. However, some of the greatest memories are of her cooking and baking. Affectionately known as ?Gracie Babes,? the kitchen was a place to be respected. Many a delicious meal and dessert was crafted from her heart and hands. A service to celebrate her wonderful life will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at St. John Lutheran Church, 11005 NE Highway 99, Vancouver, WA 98686. Straub's Funeral Home in Camas is in charge of the arrangements. To sign the online guest book or to send condolences visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com. Private inurnment will be at the Camas Cemetery, Camas, WA. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer?s Association of Washington State, 12721-30th Avenue NE, Suite 101, Seattle, WA 98125.
