Obituary of Audrey Anne Turja

AUDREY ANNE TURJA Audrey Turja, age 74, passed away Wednesday, January 19 in Vancouver. She was born July 5, 1930 in Oregon City, OR to Carl and Florence Steiner and spent her childhood in Beaver Creek, OR. She attended in high school in Hammond, OR and graduated from Astoria High School. She later moved to Portland where she met Elmer Turja and they married in 1950. They moved to Washougal in 1952 and after Elmer retired they moved to Long Beach, WA. They spent the last couple of years in the Vancouver area. Audrey enjoyed needlework, sewing, knitting and gardening. She was a homemaker who enjoyed the beach and doing crossword puzzles. While living in Long Beach she was active at the Senior Center and was a volunteer at the Interpretive Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in December of 2004. Survivors include her daughters, Lynn Risjord of Vancouver, Kay Lane of Stevensville, MT, Leigh Ann Turja of Seattle; son, David Turja of Vancouver; brother Carl Steiner of Florida; 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. A funeral service will be Tuesday, January 25 at 11am at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Washougal, WA. Interment will follow at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery.
