GERTRUDE WILHELMINA McNEALY
Gertrude Wilhelmina McNealy, a Washougal resident, died in Vancouver Friday December 10th. She had just celebrated her 100th birthday November 21st. Mrs. McNealy was born in Wilmette, Illinois to Pauline Affeldt and Hubert Schwall. She grew up in Illinois and on October 7, 1926 she married Edgar Polley. They lived in Illinois several more years and moved to the Northwest in the 1940?s. They were subsequently divorced but remained good friends. Edgar died in 1973. During the war she worked in the shipyards. Gertrude married Charles McNealy in 1949 and they lived in Portland for many years and she worked for Meier and Frank making draperies. They moved to Tillamook in the mid-70?s then to Camas in in 1998. Gertrude loved to quilt and her family members all have her handiwork. She loved bird-watching and always had daschunds as pets. She made bears and at one time had over 100 of them.
Mrs. McNealy is survived by her son Carl W. Polley of LaCenter, Wash.; daughter Margaret Cannon of Portland, Ore.; Daughters-in-law Barbara Polley of Camas, Wash. and Phyllis McNealy of Springfield, OR.; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers, her husband Charles McNealy, 2 sons Thomas and Roderick Polley.
