Obituary of Ethel Margaret Backes

ETHEL MARGARET BACKES Ethel Backes, age 91, passed away Sunday, October 24 in Eagle Creek, OR. She was born March 18, 1913 in Didsbury, Alberta Canada to Augusta and Theresa Cowet Krebs. She later moved to Camas with her husband Bill Allen and bought the Camas Bowing Alley in the late 1940?s which they ran until he passed away in 1952. She married Raymond Martin Backes in 1953 and in 1957 they moved to Milwaukee, OR and purchased a restaurant in Lake Oswego in 1957. Her husband, Raymond passed away in 1995. She has lived in Eagle Creek for the past 8 years. She loved bowling and bowled in many leagues and tournaments. She also enjoyed playing the harmonica, singing, and riding horses when she was younger. She is survived by her son, Raymond Dale Backes of Camas; daughters, Joan Houle of Payson, UT, Marion Johnson of, Minnesota, Janice Rudolph of Antioch, CA; brother, Mike Krebs of Didsbury, Alberta, Canada; and numerous grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, October 28 from 10am to 4pm at Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas. There will be no public services. Her ashes will be inurned at the Camas Cemetery.
