Obituary of Stanley Lester Burgen

STANLEY LESTER BURGEN Stanley Burgen, of Vancouver, passed away, Saturday, June 26 at SW Washington Medical Center in Vancouver. He was 87. Stanley was born October 21, 1916 in Goldendale, WA. He graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1935 and went to work at Crown Zellerbach paper mill in Camas until 1949. He then attended Coyne Electrical School in Chicago and worked for Helt-O?Dennel in Portland, OR. He later went to work for General Electric and retired in 1981 after 30 years. Mr. Burgen installed turbines on The Dalles, John Day, McNary, Chief Joseph, Grand Coulee, and Wanapum Dams. He also worked in Greece and Africa. Stanley was a life member of B.P.O.E. #823 in Vancouver; Odd fellows #196 in Washougal and the I.B.E.W. Local 49 in Portland. He was also a veteran of WWII with the Merchant Marines. He is survived by his wife, Arva, at home; nephew, James Burgen of Spokane and niece, Susan Zeisler of Salt Lake City. A funeral service will be Thursday, July 1 at 2pm at Straub?s Funeral Home in Camas. Burial will be private at the Camas Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 10am to 5pm at Straub?s Funeral Home. Memorial donations can be made to a charity of donor?s choice.
