Robinson Duncan Walker
A life full of love, generosity and service concluded on Christmas morning, 2016 surrounded by family. Robinson "Rob" was 80 years young when he passed into the arms of his Savior.
Rob was an educator teaching 7th and 8th grade science for the Santa Ynez School District in Solvang, California then teaching 4th, 5th and 6th graders in the Santa Barbara and Goleta CA School Districts. From 1969-1977 Rob was the principal of La Patera Elementary School in Goleta, a school of over 600 students. Rob retired early from education in 1991 at age 55 after suffering a stroke.
Even in recovery Rob continued his many years of service as a Deacon, Elder, sound technician and Christian educator at Goleta Presbyterian Church.
In 1958 Rob met Margaret Kaufmann in Haines, Alaska while both were working as missionaries at the Haines House Presbyterian Children's Home when Alaska was still a territory. They were married in 1960 in Ballard CA. In 2003 they moved to Camas to be nearer to their grandchildren and to enable Margaret to "walk in the woods".
Rob and Margaret celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on April 5, 2010 with family and friends at St John's Presbyterian Church in Camas.
A love of nature in and on the water led Rob to take up SCUBA diving, spear fishing, and travel to the South Pacific Islands. For many years Rob ran his own charter fishing, whale watching and boating service from Santa Barbara harbor. The lure to the Northwest was the salmon and steelhead fishing he could share with his family, friends and son.
Rob is survived by his wife Margaret, his two children and their families, Steven Elaine Walker of Camas, WA and Carolyn Brendan Morris of Hamilton, New Zealand and their five grandchildren, Ian, Brianna, Patrick, Jessica, and Zachary. Brother Donald Helen Walker Jr, sisters Jean Wayne Larsen and Nancy Bill Gilbert.
A celebration of Rob's life will take place on Saturday, January 14th at 2pm at St John's Presbyterian Church, 1206 NE Birch St, Camas, WA 98607 in Camas. Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas was in charge of the arrangements. To send condolences or to sign the online guestbook please visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com.
