Obituary of Janet Marilyn Smith

Janet M. Smith October 24, 1942-May 25, 2016 Janet M. Smith, who was born October 24, 1942 in Vancouver, WA passed away May 25, 2016 at her home in Camas, WA. She was a graduate of Washougal High School and attended Central Washington University, in Ellensburg, where she met her husband, Stanley P. Smith. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Stanley P. Smith, of Camas, sons Steven P. Smith Dianne Smith of Camas and Darrell C. Smith Sheri Smith of Snohomish WA. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Jessica Smith and Madison Smith, both of Camas. In addition, she is survived by a sister, Mary Dade of Portland and a brother, Steven Williams of Camas. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Hazel Williams and a brother, Terry Williams. Janet retired from Oregon Health Sciences University, School of Nursing, after a 25-year career. She had varied interests along with her family and career. She was a 40 year member of Beta Sigma Phi and shared many friendships with her friends from both Portland and Camas. She was active in the Camas United Methodist Church and met frequently with a group of grade-school/high-school friends from Washougal High School on a monthly basis. Janet and Stanley traveled extensively both before and after retirement having visited most of the countries in Europe several times, Russia, Guam, Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, Greece and China. They also made several trips to the big Island of Hawaii, visiting with friends. One of their fondest trips was a mule ride to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in 2008 with Janet's sister, Mary. It included an over-night stay in a rustic cabin at the Phantom Ranch. The trip was on Janet's "bucket list". A Memorial Celebration is scheduled at Camas United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 15th at 2:00pm.
