Obituary of Shirley Ann Carey

Shirley Ann Carey June 23, 1951 – December 6, 2015 Shirley, 64, passed away after a short battle with a rare, aggressive lung cancer with her husband of 37 years, Dan Carey, by her side. Shirley was born to Joseph and Ilse Bainer in Ft. Monmouth, NJ. Having relocated much as a military child, she moved to Vancouver, WA in 1969 where she was raised and cherished by Darel and Corrine Denney, who loved her like their own daughter. In 1978 she married her soul mate Dan and started a family while living in Washougal, WA. In 1987 they moved with their two children to Camas where she resided until her death. Shirley was a social and loveable person with many friends and hobbies. She enjoyed bowling, downhill skiing, bunco, oil painting, sewing, crafting, and was very active in her church. She sold Avon products, which helped her make and keep in contact with friends. She also enjoyed clamming, fishing, and other outdoor activities with her family. Shirley excelled at forming and maintaining lifelong relationships, and spoke of and thought of her friends often. Later in her life she was a very proud and exceptional grandparent, who encouraged a strong education in her children and grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her husband Dan, her son Timothy Lisa, two grandchildren David and Nolan, her brothers Michael Sheryl and Russel Bainer, her sister Patricia Dave Wischer, sister-in-law Mattie Helsten and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Patrick, her biological parents Joseph and Ilse Bainer, her ex-parents-in-law Darel and Corrine Denney, and her brothers Harold and Charles Bainer. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 15th, at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, 824 NE 4th Ave, Camas, with a luncheon to follow.
