Obituary of John Keven Medlin
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Keven Medlin 1949-2015
John was born in Richland, Washington, on March 1, 1949, but grew up on the east coast in Newark, Delaware. He was an avid soccer player, baseball player and swimmer. He also loved to play the guitar and sing. He attended the University of Delaware and was part of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. In 1970, he married his childhood sweetheart and the girl next door, Annette Clarke.
He moved to Washington to take a teaching job at Skamania School in 1976. He played the role of teacher, principal and superintendent, retiring in 2007. He was a creative, influential teacher, who made learning fun and loved what he did. He is best remembered for his teachers' band, Teacher's Revenge and the 8th grade trips to Lake Chelan.
John was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time and traveling with his family. He was laid back, liked to laugh and play games, especially poker. Always upbeat, despite life's challenges, he had a good sense of humor, which he enjoyed subjecting his family to. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Annette, daughters, Ryann and Hilary, son-in law, Jon Paul, grandchildren, Torin and Breckin, sister, Marcia, brother, Marc, sister-in-law Cindee, nephews, Miles, Trevor and Aaron and niece, Vanessa.
In keeping with the man John was, someone who loved to sing, play games and laugh, a family game night, including Texas Hold 'Em his favorite, will be held in his honor. This celebration of his life will be held May 9, 2015 at Skamania School at 5:00pm. Families, friends and anyone whose life was touched by John are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted on behalf of the students of Skamania School, who were always in John's heart. Checks can be made payable to Skamania School. 122 Butler Loop Road, Skamania, WA 98648
