Obituary of Laurell T. "Bud" Johnson

Laurell Bud T. Johnson Laurell Bud T. Johnson of Washougal passed away on Thursday, February 5 at Cascade Park in Vancouver, Washington. Born on March 5, 1923 in Cooperstown, North Dakoka to Hans and Esther Johnson and moved to Washougal at an early age. A graduate of Camas High School in 1942, Bud was employed by Crown Zellerbach-Camas for 43 Years. He joined the US Army in 1943, He was a member of the 177th Repl Co. 38th Repl Bn being stationed in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe and discharged in 1946, He was proud to be a member of the "Greatest Generation". Upon his return to Washougal, Bud enjoyed various activities being a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Vancouver Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 4278, Camas-Washougal and American Legion -27 Camas. He was also a member of the United Paper Worker's International Union. For many years Bud was a companion to Evelyn Johnson, his sister-in-law following the death of Clifford his brother and her husband. In his spare time Bud enjoyed playing cards, cribbage and visiting the local casinos. He also enjoyed good jokes and cartoons. Since he had many cousins living in Montana, one could find him during the summer enjoying the ranching activities. A true cowboy at heart. He is survived by three nieces, Gail Hitchcock, Debra Waddington, Tana Lively and nephews Steve R. Johnson and Harry Lively and a great niece, Allison Waddington, and nephews Matthew Johnson and Aaron Johnson. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff at Cascade Park for their attentive care during the past month and to the Camas Hills Care Home for their exceptional care to Bud during the past year. Military services are planned for 11:00 a.m. Friday February 13, 2015 at the Zion Lutheran Church, reception will follow. Private vault interment will be held at the Camas Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church and the Veterans Relief Fund, VFW Post 4278, PO Box 579, Camas, WA 98607.
