MARJORIE "MARGIE" ALICE ALLEN
June 22, 1925 ~ December 16, 2014
Marjorie "Margie" Alice Allen was born June 22, 1925 to Charles and Jennie Neely Edgley in Camas, WA and went to be with our Lord on Dec. 16, 2014 at 89 years old. Margie, the second of four siblings, grew up in Camas and graduated from Camas High School in 1943.
She married Robert Sellner in October 1943. They had four children together and ultimately divorced in 1969.
Margie started working for Grandma's Cookies in 1987, which is where she met the love of her life, Phil Allen. They married May 4, 1970. She later retired after 28 years of service.
Margie had many interests during her lifetime: she loved horses and joked that her interest in Phil was peaked when he confessed his love of horses. After their marriage, they owned several show horses, including her beloved Dan, a black Morgan. They belonged to the Columbia Morgan Horsemen and spent many years attending and participating in horse shows. She also had a love for Doberman Pinchers, which became their constant companions during their marriage.
Margie became quite an artist after her retirement and painted many beautiful landscapes. She also played the organ, enjoyed having family gatherings at her farm in Scholls, vegetable gardening, camping, and salmon fishing in the bay at Girabaldi Marina, and watching old westerns and Jeopardy.
Most of all, Margie loved to travel. She and Phil spent several years after retirement traveling in their motor home across the United States. Their favorite destinations were Florida and Desert Hot Springs, CA. After Phil's death in 2001, and 31 wonderful years together, Margie traveled all over the world with her beloved friends. Up until her death, she enjoyed telling stories about the Panama Canal, Israel, and her favorite trip to Istanbul with her life-long friend Sally.
Margie and Phil were invited to attend Tri-City Baptist in Gladstone, OR by friends Sally and Leon, where they committed their lives to Christ. Their lives changed at that point and they became very involved in and close to their church family. They spent time visiting members who were unable to attend church and doing door to door ministry. Margie had a strong faith and prayed daily for her family. After Phil's death, Margie's life revolved around her church family until she could no longer live on her own due to complications of Vascular Dementia.
Margie is survived by sister, Dorothy Moore; brother, George Edgley; son, Michael Sellner Julie; grandchildren, Heidi Sellner, Michael Sellner, Dawn Zimmerman, Melanie Williamson, Ian, Zachary and Max McGuire; 18 great- grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Orin; husband, Phil; son, Bobby John; daughters, Marla Joy Sellner and Michele McGuire.
Mike and Julie feel privileged and blessed to have spent the last 2+ years with Margie in their home. She will be sorely missed by all of her family and friends. They would like to give a shout out to family, friends and the staff at PeaceHealth Hospice Southwest. Your help during the last two years made Margie's life fuller and the burden lighter.
A memorial service will be held at Straub's Funeral Home in Camas at 4:00 p.m. on Fri., Dec. 19, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PeaceHealth Hospice Southwest or YWCA SafeChoice. To send condolences or to sign the online guest book please visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com
