Ronald Lee Niedert
April 15, 1943 - July 22, 2014
Ron Niedert, 71, of Washougal, Washington died peacefully with family by his side after an abbreviated battle with lung cancer on July 22, 2014. He is the youngest of four children born to Don and Mable Niedert, formerly of Stevenson, Washington where he graduated high school in 1961.
He is survived by his wife Debby Dickenson Niedert, daughter Roxanne Pearson and son-in-law Brian Pearson, grandchildren Jared, Joel and Julia Pearson; his sister Vivian Brown, brother Lyle Niedert and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his brother Keith Niedert.
Ron is known to family for his legendary popcorn making, his practical jokes, his joy of fishing, winters in Yuma and his passion for a good Western. He loved the out-of-doors camping with family, boating and hanging out at the mountain cabin of his father and mother in-law Tom and Mary Ann Dickenson. In 1998, he retired after a distinguished 30-year career in sales at RJR/Nabisco. Ron and Debby traveled extensively up and down the west coast over the last 16 years forging countless memories and friendships. The early years included extensive time at their second home in Pacific City, Oregon where they immersed themselves in the local fishing community and played host to family coursing up and down the great Sand Mountain of Cape Kiwanda overlooking the majestic Pacific Ocean and haystack rock. Seeing the country by motor home eventually gave way to a new place in Yuma, Arizona; their home away from home during the winter months. Sharing life with the dear friends of Cocopah Resort, Ron and Debby developed a fondness for the game of golf playing regularly. Ron was a patient man; happy to chat about most anything as he perched his forearms on the hood of a pickup truck or some other ledge to lean on. He could carry on for hours about the Portland Trailblazers next move, college football, which he played for two years at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon, the business world and his love of family. He was a dedicated husband, father and friend to so many who experienced the grace and fun-loving way in which he embraced an all too brief 71 years of life.
A celebration of Ron's life will be held Monday, August 4, 11:00 AM at Lacamas Lake Lodge & Conference Center, 227 NE Lake Road, Camas, WA, 98607.
