Obituary of Virginia May Alexander

Please share a memory of Virginia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Virginia May Alexander passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014 at her home in Washougal at the age of 83. Born on October 17, 1930 at Mrs. Wilson's Sanitarium in Camas, WA, Virginia lived on the farm at Fishers until age 3 when her family moved to Mt. Pleasant. At age 6 her father Lewis passed away and at age 10 her mother Ethel married Karl Abbuehl. She attended the Mt. Pleasant School before attending and graduating from Washougal High School in 1948. She began her career in the banking business in 1949 and retired in 1989 after proudly serving the public for 40 years. In 1951 she married Roy Lamb who preceded her in death in 1968. In 1970 she married Merrill "Alex" Alexander and spent 38 wonderfully happy years together, bowling, golfing, square dancing, traveling and giving to friends and strangers all that she had. A more selfless human being was never born. In 2006, a debilitating stroke, followed by Alex's passing in 2009, left her with only her faith and her dear and loyal friends as encouragement. She was very loved by her family and will be deeply missed by all those who knew her loving touch. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents Lewis and Ethel Strong Cowan, brother Bill Cowan, step-father Karl Abbuehl, husbands Roy Lamb and Merrill Alexander and many dear friends. She is survived by her children, Michael Lamb, Bruce Alexander, Cheryl Lamb and Merrilee Cooley. She was blessed by grandchildren Bryan, Angela, Aaron, Levi, Matthew, Rosalyn and nine great-grandchildren. A celebration of Virginia's life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Lacamas Lake Lodge located at 227 N.E. Lake Rd. in Camas WA. Private inurnment will be held at 11:00am on the 11th at the Washougal Memorial Cemetery. Straub's Funeral Home and Columbia River Cremation in Camas has been entrusted with arrangements.
