Edith "Pat" Loy
Edith "Pat" Loy passed away on February 11, 2014, just 34 days shy of her 96th birthday. Born March 17, 1918 on St Patrick's Day to John and Myrtle Brunner of Camas, she was of course nicknamed Pat. She was a life-long resident of Camas until 2004 when she moved to the Cascade Inn in Vancouver, WA with her husband of 69 years, Hugh Loy, who preceded her in death in 2007.
Pat graduated from Camas High School in 1936 and was senior class treasurer. She enjoyed playing tennis and met her husband Hugh on the tennis court while in high school. They married on October 30, 1938. Pat worked in the bag factory at Crown Zellerbach in Camas during the early years of married life and her and Hugh built each home they lived in around town, three in all.
In their retired years, Pat and Hugh traveled to California, Hawaii, Nevada and Ocean Park, WA to see family members and to try their luck at some gambling. Pat was lucky enough occasionally to brag about her winnings. One year her older sister, Doris, invited Pat along on a trip to Europe where she was able to visit England and Germany her father's homeland which was truly a memorable time for her.
Pat remained vital all through her later years. She stayed informed on current events and loved having lively conversations with family and friends, never shy about offering up her opinions on just about anything. She kept her mind sharp with crossword puzzles, loved to bargain hunt at Value Village, played lotto and read the newspaper every day.
When it came to family, that was really what she appreciated most of all. She always wanted to stay connected to her family members and cherished the visits with grandchildren, siblings and her own children. She would always try to think of ways in which she could show her appreciation to family and friends for either helping her with a repair, taking her on an errand or just visiting. You would never be able to leave without her sharing a cookie or chocolate bar. But paying for lunch or dinner at a restaurant was a favorite thing for Pat to do. She had a generous heart.
Pat loved her family dearly and we were all fortunate to have had her in our lives for as long as we did. She will be so greatly missed by us all.
Pat is survived by her two daughters, Linda Royer of Vancouver, WA and Rhonda Mack of Woodinville, WA, her brother Jack Brunner of Arlington, WA, her sister Jean Straub of Vancouver, WA, five granddaughters and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Straub's Funeral Home in Camas on February 15th and internment is at the Camas Cemetery. To send condolences or to sign the online guest book please visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com.
