Melvin Arnold Scott Melvin Arnold Scott was born June 24, 1924 in Conimicut, Warwick Rhode Island. On December 24, 2013, Melvin passed away peacefully at his home in Camas, Washington. Melvin is survived by his seven children, Melvin Jr., Richard, Elizabeth, Debra, David, Susan and Christine, 27 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sweetheart of 69 years, Betty Anna, his grandson Ben Scott, his daughter-in-law, Barbara Scott and infant granddaughter Melissa Joy Fear. Melvin joined the Navy in 1942 and was stationed at Mare Island, California when he married Betty Anna Johnson November 6, 1944 in San Francisco California and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple April, 19th, 1946 . Mel was stationed in Adak Alaska during the war repairing optical equipment. After being Honorably Discharged Mel and Betty established their first home together in Providence, Rhode Island working for McLeod Optical. Melvin, who was now referred to as Scotty took a job with Jenkel Davidson Optical in California. He settled in Salinas, California as the office manager. Eventually, he opened his own business, Scott Optical. Retiring from the Optical Business he moved to Washougal and then Camas Washington. He enjoyed working in his garage and could repair anything. He loved building and giving away bird houses. Melvin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully. He was the Bishop in Salinas California for many years. Melvin and Betty served in the Portland Temple and also a mission at the St George Temple Visitors Center. Betty Anna, the love of Mel's life, returned home to her Heavenly Father, November 9, 2013, 45 days before he joyfully joined her on Christmas Eve. As Melvin passed the Christmas clock began to play, "I'll be home for Christmas". A funeral service was held on December 30, at 1pm at the LDS Church in Camas. Burial was private at the St. George Cemetery in St. George, UT. Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas was in charge of the arrangements.
