Jeanne M. Deringer
Jeanne M. Deringer, 87, of Vancouver, Washington passed away peacefully at Touchmark Waterford on Saturday, December 28, 2013.
Jeanne was born February 1st, 1926, to Percy and Verona Staublin in Rockford, Illinois. Jeanne attended Blackburn College and completed her degree in Dietetics from Iowa State University. She worked in the University of Minnesota hospital and the Betty Crocker test kitchen, and even appears in a photo in early Betty Crocker cookbooks. She met John Deringer on a blind date in Minneapolis on New Year's Eve, and married him on February 13, 1960. They moved to Caldwell, Idaho where John opened four D & B Supply Stores, and they raised their children, Janice and Jeff.
Life-long vintage car hobbyists, Jeanne and John toured with their family on over 100 car tours from Arizona to Colorado to Calgary and all parts in between. She logged more miles driving a truck towing a trailer than any other woman we've ever known.
After John's retirement in 1986, and even well before that, Jeanne enjoyed travelling the world with John. They had a special affinity for Hawaii and McCall, Idaho, but also travelled to Australia, New Zealand, South America, Central America, the Bahamas, Jamaica, Bermuda, Spain, Norway, England, France and Italy.
Following her move to Vancouver in 2005 to be closer to her children and grandchildren, Jeanne enjoyed her view of the river, great dinners and the love and affection of family close by. She will be missed for her ever-present smile, her hugs, her willingness to go on an adventure and her easy going acceptance of everyone.
Services will be held at Dakan Funeral Home, 504 S. Kimball Avenue, Caldwell, Idaho at 1:00 pm, Saturday January 4th, 2014. Reception to follow.
Survivors include her daughter Janice Deringer of Lake Oswego, Oregon, son Jeff and wife Heather and grandchildren Blake, Avery and Campbell Deringer of Camas, Washington. The family suggests that memorials be made to Blackburn College at https://app.etapestry.com/hosted/BlackburnCollege/OnlineDonation.html or the National Auto Museum in Reno at http://www.eventbrite.com/e/donate-to-the-national-automobile-museum-registration-7333660175?ref\=elink.
