BETTY A. SCOTT
Betty Anna Johnson Scott was born November 5th 1926 in Kamas, Utah and passed away peacefully at her home in Camas, Washington on November 9, 2013.
Betty Anna is survived by Melvin her eternal sweetheart of 69 years and her seven children, Melvin Jr., Richard, Elizabeth, Debra, David, Susan and Christine, 27 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents Alford and Anna Johnson and sister Ella Johnson Meade, grandson Ben Scott, daughter-in-law Barbara Scott and infant granddaughter Melissa Joy Fear.
Betty as a child lived in Long Beach and San Diego, California. Her family then settled in Napa, California where she attended high school.
During the war her mother worked at a naval shipyard and invited a young sailor from RI home for a fried chicken dinner. That dinner changed the course of her life as that sailor, Melvin Scott became her sweetheart and they married on November 6, 1944 in San Francisco, California. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple April 19th, 1946.
Betty was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served faithfully. Melvin and Betty served in the Portland Temple and served a mission at the St George Temple Visitors Center.
They raised their family in Prunedale, California and in 1990 they moved to Washougal, WA. March of 2001 they decided to downsize and moved to Prune Hill in Camas Washington.
Betty loved gardening and always had a beautiful yard full of flowers. She was a great cook and blessed her family along with others who were in need of meals. She taught her children that it wasn't the meal itself that was always needed, it was the love that was delivered with it. She will be missed and forever in our hearts.
A funeral service was held on Friday. November, 15 at 1pm at the Prune Hill LDS Church. Burial will be at the St. George Cemetery in St. George, UT. Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas was in charge of the arrangements. To send condolences or to sign the online guest book please visit www.straubsfuneralhome.com.
