Harry Kenneth Ken Helland
Ken Helland passed away peaceably on September 20, 2013 following a short stay at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver. He was 79.
Ken was born on October 6th, 1933 in North County, North Dakota to the late Edroy and Anna Helene Helland. Ken moved from North Dakota to the Camas-Washougal area in 1954.
Ken was a retired Millwright from Stevenson Co-Ply. Ken also had worked as an electrician in the Portland Shipyards and he was a former reserve police officer for Camas Police Department. Ken served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 through 1963. Ken was very active in the Camas Assembly of God Church now NorthLake Church for many years.
Ken is survived by Mildred, his wife of 54 years; son Philip Elaine of Portland; daughter Jacquie LeFlore Lynn of Camas; brothers: Melvin Beverly of Vancouver, R. Dennis Kooky of Washougal and Dan Sue of Richmond, Virginia; sister Lois Shoultz of Vancouver; grandchildren: Michelle Darren Peck of Cedar Hill, Texas, Christina LeFlore of Camas, Gregory LeFlore of Camas and Sarah LeFlore of Camas; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Ken was a devoted Christian, an awesome family man and a patriot for his country.
There will be a Memorial Service honoring his life and his God on Friday, September 27, 2013, 11:00 AM at the NorthLake Church 500-NE Everett in Camas. Final Interment will be at Fern Prairie Cemetery. Straub's Funeral Home & Columbia River Cremation in Camas is in charge of arrangements.
