Obituary of Herbert Schafer

Herbert "Herb" Schafer returned to his Lord on Sunday, August 18, 2013 at Peace Health Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver. Born on July 2, 1921 in Leader, Saskatchewan, Canada to Frederick and Eva Walters Schafer, Herbert was 92 years old.
Herb was a Veteran of the US Army Air Corps during World War II. Following the war he went to work for Crown Zellerbach Paper Mill in Camas as a Millwright and retired after 38 years. He was an active member of the Nazarene Church in Camas and enjoyed singing at the church and working on the maintenance at the church.
Herb is survived by his son Dale Terrie Schafer of Camas; daughter Karen Darroll Andrew of La Center; special companion Renate at home; sisters Amelia Fisher and Mildred Chamberlain; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Burnett Schafer, second wife Evelyn Townsend Schafer; great-grandson Cody Sherrell; four sisters and six brothers.
There will be a graveside service with full military honors on Thursday, August 29th at 10:00 am at the Camas Cemetery. A celebration of Herb's life will follow on Thursday, August 29th at 11:00 am at the Nazarene Church: 2204 NE Birch Street, Camas, WA 98607. Viewing will be held on Friday, August 23rd from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Straub's Funeral Home: 325 NE 3rd Avenue, Camas, WA 98607.
